Thanks to cookies, a website remembers the user\u2019s actions and preferences (such as login data, chosen language, font size and other display settings, etc.) so that they do not need to be specified again when the user returns to visit said website or browse its pages. Cookies are therefore used to perform computer authentication, to monitor sessions and to store information concerning the activities of users who access a Wwebsites. They may also contain a unique identifier that tracks the user\u2019s navigation within the same site for statistical and advertising purposes. When navigating a Websites, users may happen to receive some cookies on their own computer from websites or servers different from the one they are visiting (the so-called \u201cthird party\u201d cookies). Some activities could not be carried out without the use of cookies, which in certain cases are hence technically necessary for the site to function.<br>There are various types of cookies, based on their characteristics and functions. These can be stored on the user\u2019s computer for different time periods such as session cookies, which are automatically deleted when the browser is closed, and persistent cookies, which remain on the user\u2019s device until a set expiration date.<br>According to the applicable Italian law, the express consent of the user is not always required for the use of cookies. Specifically, consent is not required for \u201ctechnical cookies\u201d, namely those used for the sole purpose of transmitting a communication on an electronic communication network, or insofar as this is strictly necessary to provide a service expressly requested by the user. In other words, these cookies are essential for the functioning of the website or necessary to carry out the activity required by the user.<br>Among the technical cookies, which do not require an express consent for their use, the Italian Data Protection Authority (see the Provision <em>Simplified arrangements to provide information and obtain consent regarding cookies<\/em> dated 8 May 2014 and subsequent clarifications, hereinafter referred to as \u201cProvision\u201d), also includes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u201canalytic cookies\u201d, used directly by the website manager to collect aggregate information on the number of visitors and the pattern of visits to the websites;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>navigation or session cookies (for authentication);<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>functional cookies, which allow users to navigate as a function of certain pre-determined criteria (such as language or products to be purchased) so as to improve the quality of the service provided.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>On the other hand, a prior consent of the user in the case of \u201cprofiling cookies\u201d is required.
