Port of Shuwaikh – Subiya | Bay of Kuwait<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Trevi Foundations Kuwait is involved in the construction of the Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah causeway in Kuwait City, named after the late Emir of Kuwait. The project, worth around 3.7 billion US dollars, involves building a 37 km-long causeway across the Bay of Kuwait, linking the Port of Shuwaikh with the town of Subiya where another project is in the pipeline. This second project, worth about 77 billion US dollars, is the construction of Silk City, a free port located along the ancient \u201cSilk Road\u201d which developers hope will link the Middle East with Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Silk City, on the border with Iraq, will be home to around 700,000 inhabitants and the world\u00eds highest tower. Again, in the vicinity of the new city, a port for container ships is nearing completion on Bubiyan Island, another project worth several billion dollars. In addition to the 37 km-long causeway across the bay, the project also includes a main bridge with a 200-metre span, an elevated road and 5 km of access roads to the Subiya area.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The project will also see construction of two artificial islands, each around 30 hectares, which will house maintenance buildings, as well as resting and refuelling areas and two small harbours for pleasure boats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The main objectives of the project are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 to cut journey time across the bay to less than 30 minutes (today it takes around 90 minutes to cross the bay, following the coast road);
\u2022 to create new motorway routes to enhance the development planned to the north of Kuwait City;
\u2022 to encourage greater integration between the northern areas of the country and the central and southern districts which are densely populated;
\u2022 to reduce traffic congestion in the surrounding major roads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Combined Group Contracting Company (CGCC), a Kuwaiti contractor specialised in laying pipelines in the oil and gas sector and in road and tunnel construction, and Hyundai Engineering and Construction Co. Ltd. (HDEC) from Korea, are the two project contractors. The project, which began in November 2013, is scheduled to take 1827 days, approximately five years, and is expected to be completed in 2018.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
